Our "No Capes Allowed" block continues with a meditation on American Violence, featuring two wildly different yet parallel portraits of fathers trying to protect their families from the fallout of their own brutal lives. The filmmaking is as diverse as the approach to subject, and we dig deep into the work of both Sam Mendes and David Cronenberg to reveal their subtle motivations and the hidden themes they wield. We also discuss the powerful casts of both films, including Ton Hanks, Paul Newman, Daniel Craig, Viggo Mortenson, Maria Bello, Ed Harris, and the delightfully odd William Hurt.
